5 Important Reasons Why Women Should Visit Their Gynaecologist

Most women know that in order to maintain good feminine health they should see an obstetrician and gynaecologist. However, getting doubts, anxieties or misconceptions about going to the OB/GYN may be challenging to overcome. The truth is it's essential for all women to visit an OB/GYN. Here are five reasons why you should visit your gynaecologist.

Annual check-up

Gynaecologists offer check-ups so that they can serve as primary care physicians. They also prepare necessary medical examinations for the patients. They may also administer a pelvic exam during which they test for irregularities in the urinary and reproductive systems.

Annual gynaecological appointments should be on the calendar of every woman so that they can get an overview of their gynaecological health early on during their teenage years. Annual check-ups are more likely to reveal changes or issues. Early detection often is crucial to successful treatment when it comes to gynaecological issues.

Irregular Menstrual Cycle

An irregular menstrual cycle can be a sign of a larger problem with health. Thus, getting a regular gynaecological examination is important to know if your period is longer or shorter, if bleeding is more serious, cramping has become painful or any other changes in your body.

Abnormal uterine bleeding may also signal your body of severe conditions whether in your teenage, reproductive years or if you're experiencing bleeding after menopause.

Whether it is a fibroid, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, pelvic cancer, or worse, a symptom that suggests polyps are present in the uterus.

Pregnancy

Majority of gynaecologists are obstetricians too. As such, pregnant women also consult with them during pregnancy, childhood, and shortly after birth. They will see their patient during pregnancy, at least once a month. They will also perform various tests to check the health of  the mother and baby.

Birth control

If a woman is sexually active but is not yet ready to have kids, she should see a gynaecologist to check the different options of birth control. There are more options now compared to the   older generations  and there are some solutions that are more efficient and successful than others.

Others require a prescription, like "the pill." While most women can safely use the "Pill," women with health conditions such as diabetes, breast cancer or multiple heart problems are not recommended to use it. A gynaecologist will be able to prescribe a safe and reliable birth control method for their patient.

Sexually Transmitted Disease

If a woman has sexually transmitted disease (STD) symptoms, she should see her gynaecologist. The genital area is warm and moist and therefore is a breeding ground for various bacteria and viruses. Some sexually transmitted diseases if not treated correctly can have serious consequences, such as miscarriage, infertility or even cancer.

Schedule Your Appointment Now

There are many reasons why you should see a gynaecologist. Regular visit can enhance your wellbeing as well as your lifestyle. Make sure to find a doctor with whom you are confident so you can establish a friendship and return regularly.
