PM greets nation on 72nd Republic Day

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday greeted the people of the country on the occasion of the 72nd Republic Day.

‘Wishing all the people of India a Happy #RepublicDay. Jai Hind!,’ the Prime Minister said in a tweet.

The Republic Day Parade ceremony will commence with the Prime Minister visiting the National War Memorial.

He will lead the nation in paying solemn tributes to the fallen heroes by laying a wreath.

Thereafter, the Prime Minister and other dignitaries will head to the saluting dais at Rajpath to witness the parade.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid homage to India’s fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial here.

The national flag was unfurled followed by the national anthem with a booming 21-gun salute. Later, Mr Modi penned down his thoughts in the war memorial’s visitor book.

The prime minister was accompanied by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Both the leaders were joined by Chief of Defence Staff — General Bipin Rawat, Chief of the Army Staff — General Manoj Mukund Naravane, Chief of the Naval Staff — Admiral Karambir Singh at the site.

This is an annual tradition post which the Republic Day Parade commences with President Ram Nath Kovind taking the salute.

Before 2020, India Gate was the chosen site for this tradition.
