The Best Social Scheduling Platforms

You may have heard the expression: content is king. Well, by this point, you’ve probably not just heard about it, but read about it, had nightmares about it, in fact, it’s probably tattooed on the inside of your eyeballs.

Well, you can read more about our content services here in an attempt to make those content worries drift away. The real question is: how are you getting your content out there?

Let’s be 100% transparent, no marketer is sitting at their computer all hours of the day and night, waiting for the perfect time to post, they’re not even crafting their content in-app anymore. We’re sorry to break it to you, but the days of writing out a Facebook post on Facebook… are well and truly over.

There are a million and one different tools fighting for your business to become your preferred scheduler and social media best friend. So, we’ve taken the big and the bold and compared them with the less well-known platforms to see exactly how they compare.

It’s worth noting that our review doesn’t just take into account the free plans or trials on these products, but these schedulers often require you to sign up for a monthly plan, to access their best features.

Hootsuite

First up, probably one of the most well-known content schedulers out there. Hootsuite brands itself an all-rounder, with scheduling, advertising capabilities and insight reporting.

Pros:

  1. Schedule unlimited posts with Business Plan and easily a month’s worth of content with the free plan.
  2. Gives you the ability to run advertisement campaigns.
  3. Track and report on your organic and paid digital marketing efforts.
  4. A free-forever plan is available.

Cons:

  1. A little pricier than other scheduling platforms.
  2. UI isn’t the easiest thing to pick up, especially with their newest update.
  3. You can only reply to and like comments on Facebook.

Loomly

A relative newcomer on the scheduling block. It’s selling point gives the user the ability to never run out of inspiration with their post ideas, trending topics and optimisation tips.

Pros:

  1. Share the workload with other members of your organisation.
  2. Gives appropriate content suggestions that are actually pretty useful.
  3. Integration with Slack means you can divvy up tasks with ease.
  4. Ads and analytics are useful tools to have all in one place.

Cons:

  1. The app isn’t the easiest thing to use and has limited features.
  2. Video post features are limited.
  3. Ad budget caps are low if you’re a growing organisation wanting to get your message out there.

Later

Later is, self-confession might I add, the best scheduler for Instagram, but doesn’t promote itself on it's abilities for any other social media platform. It’s one of the few schedulers that gives it’s users the ability to schedule in Instagram stories, however, we’re sure this will soon be on the rise with other platforms.

Pros:

  1. Schedule Instagram stories into your content calendar.
  2. Later has a media centre which you can pack full of evergreen content to post over and over.
  3. Filter images via the scheduler.
  4. Reply to comments and create conversation in-app. Free-forever plan is available.

Cons:

  1. Instagram features are very limited if you don’t have a Business / Creator profile, yet Instagram is Later’s main selling point.
  2. It’s worth noting that Instagram stories can only be prompted, not scheduled, due to Instagram’s algorithm.
  3. You are unable to post videos on the free plan.

Sprout Social

Another top player in the social media scheduling world. Sprout Social attempts to give you a little bit of everything you need to run your social media accounts and does it well.

Pros:

  1. Excellent collaboration tools, monitor and give access to employees at specific company levels.
  2. Get in-depth insights and reports on your digital marketing efforts.
  3. Engage with audiences in real-time.
  4. Includes Pinterest integration, which is sometimes forgotten about on social media scheduling platforms.

Cons:

  1. It can get pretty pricey when you start asking more of the platform.
  2. We question some of the features included in the higher price brackets.

Gain

Gain is the little seedling of social media scheduling. Fresh off the mould and with only around 6,500 user right now, it’s brand new. But, we’re all about supporting the little guy.

Pros:

  1. You can create content across multiple channels and duplicate posts easily.
  2. Collaborate with your team and get approval on posts before they go live.
  3. Allows you to preview posts in different settings, mobile, desktop, right-hand, etc.
  4. Canva integration, so that you can design content on Canva and get approval on the platform.

Cons:

  1. The mobile app is not up to scratch yet, so using the desktop version is the way forward on Gain until they develop their software.
  2. No reporting and analytics features.
