Chinese New Year Greetings and Wishes

The Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival or Lunar New Year, is one of the most anticipated and celebrated holidays in China.

The date of the festival is determined by the Lunar calendar and can fall anywhere between January 21 and February 20. The festival is not only an important holiday in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, but it is also observed in areas with major Chinese diasporas, such as Singapore.

Marking the end of winter and the beginning of spring, the festival is the longest holiday of the year. Festivities can go on for as long as sixteen days, and the first seven days are public holidays that are taken off from work.

Here are some of the common Chinese New Year greetings:

  • 新年快乐 (xīn nián kuài lè) - Happy New Year!
  • 恭喜发财 (gōng xǐ fā cái) - May you have a prosperous New Year!
  • 万事如意 (wànshì rúyì) - May everything go as you hope!
  • 心想事成 (xīn xiǎng shì chéng) - May all your wishes come true!
