Employee Provident Fund: Steps to check EPF account balance

If you are an employee or a member of the EPFO then you don't have to wait for your employer to share your EPF statement at the end of the year to know the balance. However, you can check your PF balance with the help of a number of facilities such as the Umang app, EPFO member e-sewa portal, missed call, or SMS facilities.

Below mentioned are the ways to check your EPF account balance and to know EPF status online.

Umang app

You have to download the Umang app on your Android mobile phone to view their PF balance. This app was launched by the government of India to offer access to various government services under a single roof. However, with this you can view the EPF passbook you can track your claim or you can raise a claim using this app. and to get started you must complete the one-time registration process using your phone number, and then you will be able to view your PF balance in your EPF account.

EPFO portal

You can now access your PF passbook on a different website run by the EPFO. It means you do not have to access the unified portal but it can still be used for transactional services such as transfer of funds and more.

So to view your PF passbook on the respective portal, you need to see if your account is connected with the universal account number i.e. UAN. you can easily print or download your EPF passbook from the website. The steps include-

  • Visit www.epfindia.gov.in
  • Click ' For Employees' under 'Our Services'
  • Click 'Member Passbook' right under 'Services'

Then, you will be taken to the page where you will be asked for your uan number along with the password. For authentication purposes, you will have a captcha below and then after clearing it,  you will be all set to login.

Message service

You can view your  EPF balance or can check the status using the message services of EPFO. For this you just have to send an SMS to 7738 299 899. You can get all the details of your latest contribution along with the PF balance in your account by sending an SMS to this number. The SMS should be EPFOHO UAN ENG. However, ENG is the language you have preferred. ENG stands for English and if you wish to have the Hindi language then there should be HIN.

Moreover, the complete facility is available in 10 different languages that include Punjabi, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Bengali.

Missed Call service

If your number is registered on the UAN then you can give a missed call on 011-22901406 from the registered mobile number where you will get the details. And you can also make sure if your UAN number is connected with your bank account number, PAN number, and Aadhar card number as well. Your employer can connect your UAN to this account.

However, an earlier EPFO app was launched to view the PF balance but now it has been discontinued.
