How to service the radiator

A heating radiator is a heat regulator in which a hot liquid circulates and transfers the heat generated by radiation to the ambient air. Its often complex shape is designed to maximize warm space in contact with ambient air and heat dissipation.

In this article, we want to discuss how to replace radiators:

Turn off the water source
Your first step is to turn off the central heating and allow the water in the system to cool down. Then arrange the valves at the end of the radiator or towel rail:

At one end is a manual control valve that turns the heat on and off.

Turn this control to off by turning it clockwise. If you have a thermostatic valve, make sure you turn it off and not just adjust the frost.

At the opposite end of the radiator ( رادیاتورشوفاژ ) or towel rail is a valve that controls the flow through the system. This is a lockable valve.

The main valves on the radiator

Use a protective cap. Screw the top piece of the square as far as possible with an adjustable wrench.

Close the main control valve

Count the number of turns required, because when replacing the radiator, the valve must open by the same amount.

Drain the old radiator
Place a bowl or bucket under the manual control valve.

Grasp the valve body with an adjustable wrench. Hold it steady while using another wrench to loosen the nut, which is easily attached, to the adapter piece wrapped around the radiator.

Drain the radiator by loosening the vent valve

Now you have to empty the air radiator to break the vacuum inside and let the water come out of the control valve. Do this by opening the vent valve at the top with the radiator switch.

Close the vent valve with the radiator switch

Hold a towel under the vent valve to trap any fat droplets.

Drain the water from the end of the radiator control valve to stop the flow.

Useful hint ...

Plumbing related to plumbing is covered by a number of safety regulations. If you are unsure about these, talk to a professional plumber.

Eliminate the mass inside the old radiator
After draining the radiator, turn off and neutralize the nut that connects the locking valve to the adapter in the radiator.

You may have to push the central heating pipes and valves out to release the connections. But be careful not to bend them!

Push the valves and pipes out to release the connections

Lift the radiator upwards to separate it from the wall brackets. You may need help to do this.

Remove the empty radiator from the wall brackets

Close the valve with the radiator switch.

There is usually some water left on the bottom of your radiator or towel rail, so bend it to one side and drain it into a bucket.

The water may be dirty, so place the radiator on old towels or sheets.
