It looks like the popular video-sharing platform YouTube has quietly released a new update allowing people to stream 4K/60p videos on all mobile devices, even on the ones that do not have an Ultra HD display.
Although people using devices with a lesser display resolution won’t get the same video quality as they would with a higher resolution screen, turning on the 4K video playback option will still benefit them.
As per a trusted source, this change was discussed late last week on the YouTube subreddit first, where people observed that the option to select 4K video playback was now available to them even though their devices didn’t have a 4K display.
Let’s assume a user has a Full HD+ phone; if they boost the video resolution to its max, doing so should still deliver an improved visual experience than viewing a 1080p video. Although needless to say, having a 4K device would provide the best visual experience.
Currently, it seems as if this new feature is available, particularly on the YouTube Android app. Also, it is still unclear if all devices with a low resolution can now access the option of selecting 4K video playback or if it’s still restricted to Full HD or Full HD+ screens only.
In addition to this, for the time being, it is also unknown if the ability to stream 4K videos on devices that don’t have an Ultra HD display is a voluntary change or one that might vanish shortly.
Till now, Google has not commented on this recent change, although a lot of users look happy with this, and it would probably not go well if the platform removes this feature abruptly.

Viewers who are part of this small experiment will still be able to like or dislike a video to share their feedback with the content creators and help fine-tune the recommendations they see on the platform.Besides individuals and brands, this “dislike mob” has also created extreme embarrassments for political leaders across the world, with their videos of political campaigns and speeches receiving 10x more dislikes than likes.
On the other hand, this announcement didn’t really go well with some people as they started debating on Twitter how YouTube will be suppressing genuine user feedback by hiding dislikes on the platform.According to reports, in another ongoing experiment, YouTube is testing out a new feature that will auto-detect all the products featured in any video that the user is watching and will show up a list of suggested links related to those detected products.
These links could redirect to eCommerce sites or even recommend better videos of the same product to help the users gain more information about it on the platform.The search giant Google revealed in its Support pages that the company is currently testing a new feature that will automatically detect products in a video and present a list of those products along with other related products.
