Undergraduate Medicine and Undergraduate Surgery (MBBS) is a four-and-a-half year program followed by one year of internship training. MBBS in Nepal is one of the most prestigious degrees in Nepalese society. The MBBS undergraduate medical program has been started by Tribhuvan University (DU) since 1978. Medical education like MBBS is a community based, integrated and problem based study. MBBS syllabus refers to innovation in medical education.
Timely exposure to the community-based learning system ‘in the ranks of graduates’, and medical ethics and medical teaching are driven towards self-learning, and they are aware of the importance of this valued subject. MBBS degree study is divided into three phases.
They are: Course of study
Phase I:
In the first two years (first phase), social medicine, basic medical science and ethics and clinical exposure take place. Students must pass all subjects to be promoted to the second stage.
Rating:
The final examination takes place at the end of each phase, i.e. at the end of every two academic years there is a compulsion to pass the first phase to be promoted to the second phase. First, students must pass a computer assessment to write the final exam each year. For failed students, a by-election will be held six weeks after the publication of the first phase results. If any student fails the sub-examination again, he / she should take the sub-examination with the new regular set.
Phase II:
The second phase lasts for 1 year, where students study forensic medicine, social medicine and medical disciplines. Medical ward placement with a theoretical start is the general philosophy of the second phase, and students qualify with it in the third phase.
Rating:
In the second phase, students must take the final exam in forensic medicine, applied epidemiology and family health training. It is mandatory to pass the second stage to get promoted to the third stage.
Phase III:
The third phase will last one and a half years. In addition to theoretical teaching and bed-side medical teaching, nine weeks of community employment take place at this stage. After this, the junior internship takes place over the last six months of the cycle.
Evaluation
The final examination takes place in all medical units. Passing the third stage is mandatory to successfully complete the MBBS degree.
Employment:
Students must take a one-year rotating internship, after which they can take an exam conducted by the Medical Council of Nepal (NMC) and practice allopathic medicine in Nepal to register.

Eligibility Limit:
Under the two-and-a-half-year curriculum of Tribhuvan University with major subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and English, students must have passed the Medical Science or have passed the General Science. Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and English.
Must have passed Intermediate level (10 + 2) or equivalent with Higher Education or General Science with 50% total marks from University / Boards recognized by Tribhuvan University.
Must have completed all the application procedures of the entrance examination and the candidates must appear for the entrance examination and have passed the entrance examination conducted by the Institute of Medicine. After the entrance examination, the medical institution will publish a qualifying list and then the students will be selected on the basis of the qualifying list.
