Percutaneous vertebroplasty Percutaneous vertebroplasty is a minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of vertebral compression fractures. Vertebral compression fractures occur in vertebrae that have been weakened by osteoporosis or other conditions that weaken the bones such as cancer which leads to the collapse of the vertebra and causes the spine to shorten or curve forward from the usual position which can give rise to pain and kyphotic deformity (Hunch back –refers to an abnormally curved spine). Spinal compression typically occur in the thoracic vertebrae which include T1 to T12 Vertebrae it can also occur in the lumbar vertebrae L1 to L5 The goals of vertebroplasty are to reduce pain as well as strengthening and stabilizing the fractured vertebra For creative: Percutaneous vertebroplasty (Image-guided percutaneous spine intervention) -A safe and highly effective treatment for spinal compression fractures -Uses surgical vertebral filling restoring original configuration and shape -Prevents collapse of vertebral body if done earlya.
