Many dentists use headphones with music so that the patient’s mind is diverted and the sound of the drilling machine is not heard.

What can the patient do at their end to get rid of dental anxiety? First of all, they have to identify the source of anxiety. Most of the time, the reason for anxiety is invalid. They should then start talking to someone about it, especially someone who’s done through dental treatment. When they start talking they may get some real information that will give them the courage to at least consult a dentist. Ask help from the dentist once you are there. For young children, it is always better to take them along for your own regular check up with the dentist. Make them see what you are going through and try to answer their questions about why you give so much importance to the dental health. Gather information about how our teeth work or stay healthy and share those with them. You may even talk about the dental problems we may have and how having regular dental check up is a smarter choice than having to treat severe problems later. For cosmetic purpose show them before and after profiles while counselling them.
