Why is it difficult to find a property over 0.5 of an acre for sale?

The current trend of purchasers in the UK is finding a property for sale not only in a rural area but with a larger garden. This is predominantly down to many more people working from home, so no longer need to commute, and children being homeschooled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The prediction is that in 2021, this trend is going to continue. But finding a property that has more than half an acre for sale is harder than you might think.

The best locations for finding a property for sale with land


To find a property for sale with more than half an acre, you’ve got to move out of towns. It is quite unusual to see properties with that sort of size garden or land in a town or city.

In 2020, Rightmove conducted research into the top 10 most popular rural locations that buyers moving out of the big cities were relocating to for a quieter life. Topping the list was Banwell in Somerset, closely followed by Marlbrook in Worcestershire, West Linton in Peeblesshire and Bridge of Weir in Renfrewshire.

Of course, which rural location you choose to move to depends on your requirements. Sometimes it may just be a move out of your current town location into a neighbouring village. For others, it’s a complete change of lifestyle as well as location.
