The Efficient And Effective Transportation Of Natural Gas

The efficient and effective transportation of natural gas from producing areas (Source Point) to consump-tion regions (Demand Points) requires an extensive and elaborate transportation system. Several variables play significant role in the transportation system. Some of the factors affecting the type of gas transportation used include gas reserves, time frame to monetize the gas, the distances to the markets, investments and infrastructure available and gas processing. The possible ways of transporting natural gas to markets are Pipelines,Liquefied Natural Gas, Compressed Natural Gas, Gas to Solids (hydrate), Gas to Liquids, Gas to Wire andother gas to commodity methods.
The demands placed on Natural gas transmission companies today to transmit Natural gas in a safe and efficient manner have major implications for the organization and operation of the transmission companyas a whole. The business of producing and delivering Natural gas to the consumer is a complex process involving many different companies, departments or organizations. From the exploration and production companies the raw gas is delivered to the processing plants; the processed gas is then transported via ahigh-pressure transmission system to a variety of domestic and industrial consumers through localdistribution systems. However, there have been a lot of issues arising from the construction of new transmission lines, asexisting gas pipelines don’t have enough capacity to fill gas demands from various sectors.
Virtual pipeline gas is an alternative method of transporting natural gas to places where there are no pipeline networks available. It is based on a modular system of compression or liquefaction, transport and decompressionand/or regasification of natural gas, which communities, industries, gas stations and others can use. Invirtual-pipelines compressed/liquefied natural gas is transported by various modes - highway, railway, waterways and the sea. Significant reserves of natural gas are not being utilized because there is no way to reach demand points (market). In other cases, the reserves even though substantial do not justify capitalcost of laying a dedicated pipeline. Especially for marginal field operators.
