A dealership might describe its vehicles by a single word, such as "flexible vehicle". The term flex refers to the way in which a vehicle is constructed. An example of a lingo might be "equipped with fold down sport seats". This is just an example, however, it illustrates the importance of choosing carefully the terminology that you use when you are trying to communicate with a customer.

A dealer term used to attract new customers is "free". When you refer to the financing of a vehicle, you are talking about financing that does not require a credit check or deposit. A common term for this type of financing is "sub-prime". A sub prime is a less common term that can be used interchangeably with "prime". A general manager is a higher ranked employee than the salesman or the saleswoman. The term used to describe the person in charge of planning, buying, manufacturing and selling for a company. The term used to describe someone in charge of operations that also oversees the sales teams is "gatekeeper". This person must also ensure that all employees follow company policies and procedures.

A dealer lingo can be very confusing to most people. The salesman can use it to describe the customer service department. Most of the time, the customer is upset about a transaction or has a question, so the manager must calm the customer down by explaining that all sales staff are aware of the requirements of the customer before they sign anything. The terms' customer service and dealer lingo are often used interchangeably by dealers.

One last term used commonly by dealers is "last minute purchase". It describes when a vehicle is sold in an out of stock situation. This can be due to the customer being late to pick up their vehicle up at the dealership, or a change in inventory that requires the vehicle to be pulled from lots around the country. Salespeople call this a last minute purchase. Last minute purchase can result in a loss for a dealer, but it can also mean a big profit for the buyer.
