What Exactly is a FAT file system

The FAT or File Allocation Table is simply files stored in the form of clusters in the hard drive of the computer system. The clusters are assigned to the file based on First Fit, Best Fit, or Worst Fit policies depending on the algorithm followed by the computer system.

Common Reasons for FAT file Corruption

1) Firmware Error- If there is an error in the software program installed on the FAT file we call it Firmware Error. These errors appear early in the lifetime of the FAT file and a user can easily compensate from the manufacturer of the hard drive since the FAT file will be in a warranty period.

2) Bad Sector Problem As discussed above sectors or clusters are partitions where data gets stored in a FAT file system. But due to various reasons, a sector could get corrupt a term commonly known as "bad Sector".

3) Injection of Virus- Virus and other sorts of malware can ruin the performance of the FAT file leading to its corruption.

4) Sudden Power Loss- When a FAT file is being modified or changes are being made into it then a sudden power loss can altogether corrupt the FAT file system leading to its complete breakdown.

5) Accidental deletion of FAT file Data- FAT files have some inbuilt programs embedded in them which are necessary for the proper functioning of the FAT file system. Their deletion could degrade the performance of the FAT file and lead to sudden performance breakdown of the FAT file system.

Consequences of Corruption of FAT file System

1) Repetition of same work again leading to wastage of time and money, especially in a business perspective.

2) Wastage of storage space since the same data needs to be first generated and then stored on a different storage media.

3) Loss of important data which could not be generated again leading to major financial breakdowns.
