How to find the serial number for your Apple device

iPhones, iPads and iPods

Quickly Find Your Serial Number and Model Number

You can usually find out the serial number and model number of an iOS device by visiting: Settings > General > About

Your model number will also be listed here also. You should see something like the image below where you serial number will be listed where I have highlighted it red, and your model number will be listed where I have highlighted green.

You may see something slightly different, depending on your version of iOS, but the serial number and model number are usually included in a similar section named ‘About’.

Can’t Find Your Serial Number or Model Number?

If your device is badly damaged or there are no numbers listed, you can find the serial number manually. The serial number for an iOS device is usually inscribed either on the back of the device, or on the SIM card tray. If you don’t have a serial number on the back of your device or SIM card tray, we can accept the IMEI number instead which is a slightly different number which also acts as a unique identifier.

If you are still unsure, Apple has made a great guide for finding these details.

iMacs, Macbooks and Mac Minis

Quickly Find Your Serial Number and Model Number

On modern releases of MacOS, you can find the serial number by clicking the apple in the top left and selecting ‘About This Mac’. In my screenshot, the serial number is listed where I have highlighted white.

Can’t Find Your Serial Number or Model Number?

Most iMacs have the serial number listed on the foot of the stand. Similarly, most Macbooks will have the serial number on the bottom case. Mac Minis have the serial number beneath the bottom cover, which can be twisted to reveal the device details. The model number is usually found next to the serial number.

Which is The Right Number?

Unsure you’ve found the correct number? A serial number for an iMac, Macbook or Mac Mini is usually 11 or 12 digits long and will look something like this:
