IPL 2021: Suspended Indefinitely Because of Rising Covid-19 Cases in the League

Amid rising Covid-19 cases within the bio-bubble in the league, IPL 2021 has been suspended indefinitely by the BCCI. A few Covid cases have been reported among four different franchises recently.

Yesterday, Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier tested positive for Covid-19 from Kolkata Knight Riders. Two members from Chennai Super Kings, including Lakshmipati Balaji, had contacted the virus. Today, Wriddhiman Saha from Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals‘ Amit Mishra have tested positive too.

The recent positive cases have forced the Indian cricket Board to take the harsh call on the league. Earlier, there were speculations of shifting the entire remainder of the tournament to Mumbai that is reporting a decline in the Covid cases recently. But the news of a couple more cases has left no choice for the governing body but to suspend the league.

The Board released an official statement which is as follows. “The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect.
