The Front Plank

1. Lie on the floor flat on your stomach with your feet together.

2. Put your hands together so your elbows are on the floor, your head should be up looking straight ahead.

3. Raise your body up keeping it as straight as possible, you should be supporting your body with just elbows, forearms and feet on the floor.

4. Try and hold the position for up to 30 seconds, remembering to keep your body as straight as possible.

The Skydiver Position

Another really simple but effective core strengthening exercise.

1. Lie flat on your stomach with your arms and legs spread a little further than shoulder-length apart.

2. Try and lift up your arms and legs at the same time.

3. Hold the position for 10 seconds then repeat several times.

The Heal Touch

Another simple exercise that can be performed at home without equipment.

1. Lie on your back and bend your knees.

2. Slowly raise your shoulder blades off the ground and touch your left heel with your left hand.

3. Then do exactly the same move with your right hand and heel.

4. Repeat 10-20 times on each side.

There are lots of other great exercises to help you strengthen your core muscles. Pilates is also a great exercise discipline that focuses on building core strength and improves flexibility. So go ahead and build a strong and healthy core.
