How Many Calories To Lose Weight With BioFit Probiotic Supplement

With the thousands of weight loss programs now available it is not at all surprising that people are confused by the often-conflicting information, especially as it pertains to the question, how many calories should I eat to lose weight successfully every day.

There are extreme diets and probiotic supplements that will have you eating as few as 500 calories per day. There are diets that tell you not to count calories at all. So what does someone who is earnestly seeking an intelligently designed nutrition program do?

Often, we find the truth lies somewhere in the middle, and this is true on this particular topic as well. Fitness professionals have experimented with numerous variables, calories per day being chief among them, and have come to some fairly reliable conclusions. These conclusions are by no means carved in stone as the appropriate answer for everyone, but they are the closest thing we have at this point.

As with any recommendations, the ones I will give in this article regarding calorie intake should be thought of as intelligent starting places. From there each individual will have to play with the numbers a bit to find what works best for him or her.

A Reasonable Deficit

The foundation of effective weight loss is a reasonable calorie deficit followed consistently. What this means is that you will eat slightly less calories than your body requires each day for an extended period of time. The number of calories this deficit will be depends on a few factors like sex, lean muscle mass, age, activity level, and so on.

Where to Start

The clear place to start here is by figuring out what your daily maintenance calories are. If you do not know where you “break even”, so to speak, you will not be able to determine what number of calories would give you the above mentioned reasonable deficit. To do this you must determine your basal metabolic rate. There are a few websites that have built in calculators that will do this for you.

Simply do a search for “basal metabolic rate” and you will find one of these sites in a few moments. Once you determine your basal metabolic rate you will follow the link that lets you use the Harris-Benedict formula to figure out your daily maintenance calories.

Then What?

Once you know your daily maintenance calories it’s time to figure out what a reasonable deficit will be for you. I will give you a couple of examples below that demonstrate how this is done.

For the first example let us say we have a 33-year-old woman whose daily maintenance calories fall at 1,900 calories per day. In an instance like this, starting with a 500 calorie per day deficit will be ideal, making 1,400 calories per day the target number for this woman.

For our second example we will use a 28-year-old man whose maintenance calories fall at 3,700 calories per day. As this is a much higher maintenance amount than the previous example, this gentleman has a bit more leeway in how he eats. He could start with a modest 500-700 calorie deficit, but could easily accomplish a 1,000 or 1,500 calorie deficit without under eating.
