The Charter Financial Analyst (CFA) is one of the most sought after names by investment professionals. However, being a CFA charter holder is not for the faint of heart or disinterest. The road to get a CFA charter holder is long and tests not only knowledge of the subject, but also persistence, persistence and willpower.

According to CFA Level 1, the current program is best described as a self-contained distance learning program that uses a universal approach to the analysis, evaluation and management of investment portfolios and emphasizes the highest ethical and professional standards.

The CFA program consists of three exams: CFA exam Level 1, Level II, and Level III.2 CFA applicants must pass each of these exams and meet certain performance requirements set by the CFA Institute. In December 2020, the pass rate for the Level I exam was 49%. The curriculum for each of these three levels is designed to test the skills deemed most suitable for the investment profession. In this article, we will focus on the CFA Level I exam.

The exam is a computer-based exam divided into two 135 minute sessions. The exam consists of 180 multiple choice questions: 90 questions in the first session (2 hours, 15 minutes) and 90 questions in the second session (2 hours, 15 minutes). Depending on their knowledge of the topic, applicants should enter approximately 90 seconds per question.

All multiple choice questions are independent (that is, not mutually dependent). There are three options for each question. The questions are cleverly designed so that the wrong choices reflect common mistakes in calculation or logic. Applicants should strive to answer all questions as there is no penalty for incorrect answers.

This section covers the Code of Ethics, Professional Standards, and Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS). There are about 36 questions on this issue and the institute itself takes this section very seriously. If the scores on all other topics are low or close to the minimum achievement score, the scores in this section can determine whether or not the candidate will pass. One of the advantages of a good ethics degree is that it helps with the preparation of Level II and III examinations.
