Bill Gates has officially restored his grip on information technology. The company has focused on corporate needs with Windows 10 by adding new updates that highlight user experience power – and the corporate world has showed its appreciation.

The Corporate World Embraces Windows 10

Windows 10 is now actively running on over 270 million devices. Following the unmitigated disaster that was Windows 8, the operating system has made a swift and decisive comeback.

The majority of businesses worldwide have embraced this innovative step for Microsoft — the numbers don’t lie. The advanced features have outshone Apple’s operating system, such as the intelligent personal voice-assistant Cortana.

There are a number of new features aimed specifically at aiding IT staff deploying and managing the software. The Windows Update for Business offers IT pros greater control over the deployment of updates within their organization, helping keep devices up to date and secure. Meanwhile, Windows Store for Business provides an easier way for IT to manage apps, whether they are from the Windows Store or built in-house.

In addition, there has been a lot of emphasis on user interface. Thankfully, Microsoft has clearly gone back to the much-loved Windows 7 for inspiration. While there are some modern touches and nods a la Windows 8, the desktop is much more familiar to most users. Gone are the full-screen apps and touch-optimized ‘Live Tiles’ of Windows 8. Instead, we have the return of a much more pleasing user experience including the addition of the start button, plus resizable Windows Store apps.

Some of our favourite new functionality is the improved security and management for corporate businesses. New identity management capabilities are provided with Windows 10 that offer Active Directory access via the Azure cloud. This reduces reliance on additional passwords when moving between desktop accounts and cloud services such as Office 365 and the Windows Store.

Unlike consumer and small businesses versions of the operating system, which offer free updates for the first year, large businesses continue to pay for Enterprise licenses and Software Assurance support. However, the benefit is that larger businesses will choose how and when updates will be deployed rather than automatically accepting them.

Its no wonder the corporate world has embraced this powerful new version of Windows.

And there’s more to come. Microsoft also announced this week that they will be releasing the highly anticipated Windows 10 Anniversary Edition update this summer.
