Training of security officers is a key component for those individuals who are interested in becoming an officer in the law enforcement field. There are many levels of police officers that are required to be trained and to obtain their security guard certification. Most aspiring security guards will pursue a career in one or more of the law enforcement divisions. The most common of these divisions include the FBI, CIA, Homeland Security, Alcoholic Detoxification Unit (ADU), Phoenix Police Department, Los Angeles Police Department, Salt Lake City Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Each of these branches require specific training for security guards. In addition to the training of security officers required by each of the branches, the training must also conform to the specific training requirements of the state they are working for.

As a security guard, you will be charged with the responsibility of protecting both property and people. Therefore, it is essential that you are well-trained in order to provide your customers with the highest level of customer service and safety. Basic training of security officers will cover what you can expect from a client, what to do in certain situation, what to expect in the event of an emergency, what to do in regards to the law, and other important information regarding crime. This information is important to the safety of those individuals, you are charged with protecting.

There are two primary training courses for security officers, the on-the-job training of security officers and the criminal justice training of security officers. Both courses focus on the same general information about crime and law enforcement. However, the screening process for the training of security officers is different than that of the screening process for the training of security services. In order to be certified as a security guard, security officers must pass both the on-the-job training course and the criminal justice course.

The training of security officers must include physical fitness, mental aptitude, and character development. All security officers must be able to physically take on any circumstance that may come their way. They must also be mentally and emotionally stable in order to remain calm when situations become volatile. This training is especially critical when working with children and others who may be emotionally unstable.

The second type of training of security officers is criminal justice training, which is focused on how to interact with criminals in order to apprehend them. Those who have been professionally trained in the area of criminal behavior are often referred to as criminal defense attorneys. Those who are aspiring to become criminal defense attorneys should pursue this training in order to properly educate themselves about the criminal justice system in their area.

Another type of training of security officers involves becoming a correctional officer. In this training, prospective guards learn about what to do in specific situations and what other training is available to them if they find themselves in those situations. Correctional officers have to be able to make quick decisions under stressful circumstances, such as when an individual is locked up alone or when they are being searched or detained. Correctional officers also need to be organized and aware of details about their job that the public may not be aware of. Those who are interested in becoming correctional officers can train for the position through accredited training programs, although they may also gain experience through working with a security company or another company that offers training of security officers.

There are some companies, such as those that specialize in training security officers, that focus on homeland security. homeland security officers protect the public from acts of terrorism and crime at a smaller scale. Their training usually takes place in smaller towns or cities, rather than in large cities. Although it is slightly more involved than training security guards at large companies, homeland security officers are still responsible for safeguarding people and assets within their area of responsibility. Some of the duties of a homeland security officer include performing regular security duties in high risk areas; monitoring local weather and water temperatures; and conducting surveillance for possible threats against the local area.

Security officers are not required to carry firearms unless they are working in a courthouse or major public building. Most guards are required to have some form of identification, and they are also expected to be able to recognize members of the public and those who may pose a threat to them. It is not uncommon for security officers to be asked to do night shifts. Duties of these officers usually include checking doors and windows, interviewing people, and making arrests. In some cases, they may be called to assist the police department with traffic issues or other random tasks. According to Davises, if a security guard becomes too busy to handle certain assignments, a request to have more time to perform that duty will be considered.
