It has been six months since the release of the PS5 and Xbox series X. In this article, we will compare to see which console comes out on top. Both consoles are still hard to find.

Design

Both designs are great, and everyone will love them. PS5 looks like a console from the future with its spaceship-style design. Sony has given a lot of attention to detail. On the other hand, Xbox Series X looks like a present box. It has a very modern look. Everyone likes the black monolithic look. Xbox looks good in both horizontal and vertical orientation, while PS5 looks good while standing up.

Xbox is built like a tank; it feels premium in quality while PS5 feels cheap. The plastic feels thin, and the middle parts get scratched easily. By the build quality, Xbox is up to the mark. Xbox is smaller than the PS5. You can quickly put Xbox in your TV cabinet.

If you count design equation, build quality, and size, the Xbox series x is ahead on this one.

Controller

PS5 has a dual sense controller. The Xbox controller just vibrates while the PS5 controller gives you actual haptic feedback. This is very similar to the premium android phone’s keyboard. There are only a few games where you can get test results for the haptic feedback.

Xbox gives you vibration inside the triggers, while the PS5 controller also has adaptive triggers. This will provide different tension levels for few games. The PS5 controller has a built-in speaker and mic. You will only hear sound effects through it. You can also reply from the controller mic. You can disable the microphone with the mute button. The PS5 controller also has a touchpad, and It works as a menu button for few games.

Xbox controller feels like cheaper plastic and less refined compared to the PS5 controller. The Xbox controller is more comfortable compared to the PS5 controller. Xbox controller does not have a built-in battery, while PS5 has it.

You can change batteries in the Xbox controller, while PS5 does not support the rechargeable battery. There are few issues with the PS5 controller in terms of stick drift.

Games

If you care about exclusives, then go for PlayStation. However, if you care about backward compatible titles and play cross-platform games at the highest possible settings, go for the Xbox.

In Xbox, you can play Xbox One and Xbox 360 games. The PS5 only supports PS4 games. Xbox kind of works like a PC. If you play Xbox one games on Xbox series X, it will automatically run at higher settings than Xbox One. The PS5 will require an update for better gameplay.

PS5 needs a manual patch for these games to take full advantage of the hardware, while Xbox does not require that. When developers update their games, the PS5 will match the Xbox, but old games will never get updated. If you care about both games, then go for the Xbox. If you want exclusive games, then go for the PS5.

User Interface

The PS5 UI is easier to use. The design is more streamlined and intuitive. On the Xbox, you will have menus on the top of the menus. You will get ads on the home screen that is unacceptable for many users. There is no way to remove the ads. On the PS5, many surround system works. The Xbox UI is 1080p, so it looks odd if you look at UI while playing games. The PS5 does not have this problem as UI is 4K.

When you download games on Xbox, it will automatically download the Xbox series X version of it. If there is no Xbox series X version of the game, it will download the Xbox One X version. It will automatically run at higher settings. On the other hand, in PS5, it would download the PS4 version by default unless you manually selected a PS5 version instead. Sony has changed this setting now, so; you will get a PS5 version. You can still download the PS4 version on your PS5. This does not make any sense.

Special Features

You will get a game pass on the Xbox. With this game pass, you can download as many games and enjoy them. The game pass collection is outstanding. You can get this for $120 per year. Xbox also has a quick resume feature. It lets you quickly switch between games. PS5 does not have this feature, but PS5 is super quick at loading games.

The PS5 has VR support, while Xbox does not support VR. Xbox has 1TB of storage, and PS5 has 825GB of storage. Both consoles support external hard drives.

Price

The PS5 and Xbox series X both cost $500. For this price, you should go for the Xbox with a game pass. You will get plenty of games to play. The PS5 also comes in a digital-only version for $400. It removes the ability to play games with discs. Microsoft also has a series S, It cost around $300, but it is a 1080p console. You can get PS5 Digital for $100 more, which is more powerful.

Conclusion

PS5 offers you the advantage of a better controller and exclusive games. Xbox has a game pass which is a massive advantage. You will get better backward compatibility and a higher setting for cross-platform games in Xbox series X.
