Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal imbalance that affects over 20% of women in India. In PCOS patients, the male hormone androgen is secreted in large quantities, causing obesity, unwanted hair growth, irregular periods, inflammation, etc.

More than 50 percent of women with PCOS Weight Gain and associated complications. Lifestyle changes, dietary changes play an important role in combating this hormonal disorder and in losing weight.

Diet for PCOS

High androgen levels in PCOS patients lead to insulin resistance, causing excess weight. It is imperative to control insulin levels through diet in order to lose those extra pounds as well as regulate periods.

Choose a diet from the following foods to help manage PCOS.

Low glycemic index diet

Foods with a low glycemic index are digested very slowly, preventing a sudden spike in blood sugar. It also maintains insulin levels, speeds up metabolism and, in turn, reduces weight. Low glycemic foods include millet, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, fruits, starchy vegetables, and other unprocessed foods.

Anti-inflammatory diet

Women with PCOS are prone to chronic inflammation, which can lead to severe insulin resistance, fatigue, and weight gain. Choose a rich selection of anti-inflammatory foods such as berries, oily fish, leafy greens, and extra virgin olive oil, which can not only reduce inflammation but also boost energy.
