How a Keyword Planner Helps You Find Long Tail Keywords

If you are an internet marketer or a website owner, odds are that you have heard of the term "keyword planner", but may not be exactly sure what it means. The basic idea behind this tool is to take the phrase most likely to appear in your website titles (all caps and lowercase letters) and organize those keywords into lists that are more likely to produce targeted traffic to your website. But how does a keyword planner work?

How does it work? Well, generally speaking, there is a program (or tools) running on Google that can help you organize those keyword phrases for future use. For example, if you wanted to create a keyword for winter sports shoes used by men in your local area in the upcoming skiing season, you would go into the appropriate Google search volume trends site and generate a list of words that are very winter related. That list might include words like snowboarding, skiing, ice hockey, sledding, or any other synonyms for winter sports shoes.

By default, keyword research software like the Google Keyword Tool sorts these lists by seasonality. Seasonality refers to the general type of climate that a particular locale enjoys, such as warm/cold, damp/dry or sunny/cloudy. So if you entered a search term like "winter sports shoes", you would receive a list of seasons available. You could then drill down into particular seasons, such as "Siberian winter sports shoes" to find those made in Siberian sweat socks.

When you enter a search volume, such as "sports shoes", the software program takes your entered search terms and generates a list of keywords with the highest possible search volume. The program then filters these keywords to provide the best quality, most targeted traffic to your website. It may take a little time to find the high quality keywords, especially if there are quite a few good keywords in the competition. However, the high quality keywords are the ones that will bring you the most traffic.

So how does a keyword planner google program identify good quality keywords? Well the answer is it doesn't. A good keyword research program identifies profitable keywords based on a few different factors. These factors include: competition, last year's activity, traffic trends, and keywords that have recently expired. The keyword planner then matches up these profitable keywords with websites selling similar products. This way the software has a better chance of providing you with the most profitable keywords, which converts to sales more easily.

If you want to try the keyword planner in your own campaigns, there is a trick to get the best results. Try it in the new account setting, not the search volume setting. Open a new Google Chrome browser, and fill in the search box with your keyword. Hit the "search" button, and the browser will ask you to go to the "expert mode".

Now try searching for your keyword with just the word "expert" and low competition. You should see a list of queries with long-tail keywords underneath the list of daily searches. That's a sign that your keyword is one of the best low competition long-tail keywords for your niche.

So if you want to find long-tail keywords that convert at a percentage above your competition while increasing your monthly search volumes, use a keyword planner. This program can save you tons of time trying to find the high quality low competition keywords that will bring you the most money. I personally use two keyword research programs. One is geared toward organic search volume keywords, and the other is geared toward paid searches. You can find out more about them both by visiting the website indicated below.
