What is rosin?

Rosin is the process of extracting the oils that give a cannabis plant its unique taste and smell by using heat and pressure.

The whole process is fairly simple and does not require the use of any foreign substances, unlike other methods that use butane and/or propane.

As you can imagine, since Rosin does not require the use of any other solvents or substances to produce, the final product is very potent, pure and tastes & smells exactly like the strain that it was extracted from.

There’s a visry good reason why rosin is gaining rapid popularity and why it’s poised to take over the extracts market.

It has been just under two years since rosin was introduced to the cannabis concentrate market. Within that time, this solvent-free concentrate processing method has proved quite viable in the legal market, influencing a surge of innovation in the wake of rising demand.

How Rosin Tech Works
To produce rosin, three components are required: heat, pressure, and time. The technique in rosin production rests within the ability to balance these three components together to create a superior product in flavor and effect.

1.Temperature
Temperature is key to making good rosin! A good rule of thumb to remember is:

Lower temperatures (190°F- 220°F) = more flavor/terpenes, less yield, end material is more stable (butter-like/honey consistency

Higher temperatures (220°F- 250°F) = less flavor/terpenes, more yield, end material is less stable (sap-like consistency)

Bearing these in mind, if your press is more than capable of delivering the right pressure, we don’t recommend you going higher than 250°F.

When extracting rosin, heat must be controlled in order to preserve terpenes and cannabinoids. High temperatures have the ability to rapidly degrade these molecules, creating a bland and inferior final product. This is why producing rosin at the lowest temperature possible is paramount. Limiting the time exposed to high heat can retain some terpenes; however, reducing heat is the only way to ensure the least degradation possible.

2.Pressure
While it’s tempting to go out to build or buy a rosin press with the highest capacity, science has shown that higher pressure does not necessarily equate to higher yields.

Sometimes the higher pressure can, in fact, produce less desirable results because the increase in pressure actually forces less desirable materials such as lipids and other fine particles into your rosin.

Our friends at Pure Pressure broke the science down to a tee on this on their blog if you want to read more about it.

3.Time
The time it takes to produce rosin varies depending on the material, a strain that you’re using and if there’s enough pressure

Use the timetable below as a starting point to determine how long you should be pressing based on your starting material.
Material Temperature Time
Flower 190°F-220°F 15–60 seconds
Good Quality Sift/Bubble 150°F-190°F 20–60 seconds
Average to Low-Quality Sift/Bubble 180°F-220°F 20–60 seconds

Rosin Press

Rosin has become one of the most popular concentrates. Its potency is off the charts. That’s why it’s easy to see why enthusiasts love rosin and its concentrate products, although the process of making is far from easy.

To achieve the optimum purity of rosin, you need high-quality rosin presses with the best reliability. These machines use heat, pressure, and filter bags with microscopic holes to extract rosin in high concentration from your cannabis hash without the use of any solvent. Rosin presses also have different types according to how pressure is applied.

Here are a few guiding questions to ask yourself to help you determine which rosin press you should buy:

Will you be using this for personal or commercial purposes?
How much demand will you need out of this press?
How important is space for you?
Do you want something that is portable?
Would you mind buying extra accessories for the press? (An air compressor and perhaps valves for pneumatic presses).

Without further ado, let’s dive into the extensive world of rosin presses. We will recommend two best cheap rosin presses.

Dabpress 6 Ton Hydraulic Rosin Press

This is one of Dabpress Rosin Press series.

The Dabpress 6 Ton Manual Personal Rosin Press gives you the freedom to press your own rosin from high-quality plant material to create pure, potent extractions in the privacy and discretion of your own home, at the office, or at a friend’s house. The Dabpress personal rosin press features a 6-Ton Bottle Jack and 3” x 5" heated aluminum platens.

Long Life Guaranteed
The Dabpress 6 Ton’s frame is constructed from sturdy H-shaped steel paired with a 6-ton bottle jack that’s spring-installed into the steel frame away from the working area.

Accurate Temperatures
The anodized working surface ensures clean flavors and easy cleanup. Independent heating rods and thermocouple ensure accurate temperatures

Ideal Pressure
The 6-ton (12,000 lbs total force) hydraulic bottle jack delivers optimal pressure for solventless extractions. Dabpress recommends 2” x 3", 2” x 4", 2.5” x 4.5" sized rosin bags.

Well Insulated
The Dabpress is manufactured using low heat transfer bamboo insulators for fast heatup and better protection against the bottle jack overheating.

Reusable Components
Dabpress created this press so that the platens and temperature control box can be easily removed and installed in a new rosin press.

ECO Farm 8 Ton Hydraulics Dual Rosin Press Machine ECO2047

This is one of ECO Farm rosin press machines.

Description
· Rosin production requires only two mechanisms: heat and pressure. Rosin is also far less time consuming to process, in some cases yielding a consumable product in a matter of seconds. At the center of rosin production is the press, a machine responsible for producing controlled amounts of heat and pressure over short periods of time.
· Double heating plate high pressure hot press is also a good way to extract rosin, it has reasonable pressure, temperature and time. Larger pressures will of course produce more rosin.

Specifications:
Voltage: 110V/220V
Power: 600W
Time range: 0–999s

Handle length: 35cm
Packing size: 34*27*46 cm
Pressure range: 0–5000Kg (72500PSI)
Upper and lower heat Plate Size: 6cm x 12cm(2.4"x4.7")
Working temperature range: 0–250 Celsius degree , 0–450 Fahrenheit degree
Heating plate material: aluminium

Conclusion

The market for rosin presses is still relatively young, and developing rapidly every day.

Intrigued consumers should shop with caution when looking for a rosin press, as the industry is young and ripe with inferior technology. At the end of the day, the best option may be to buy the parts and build one from the ground up.
