Barack Obama, in full Barack Hussein Obama II, served as the 44th president of the United States from 2009 to 2017. Born August 4, 1961, in Hawaii, he was the first African American person to hold the office of the president.

After winning a close-fought race against the New York Senator and the former first lady – Hilary Rodham Clinton – for the Democratic party nomination, Obama proficiently defeated the Republic nominee Senator John McCain. This was thanks to his uniting bipartisan message, under the slogan “Change we can believe in”, and the chant “Yes we can”.
