When it comes to installing a new garage door for your home, there are a lot of options that you can choose. Harrisonburg garage doors come in many different materials, which can give you a lot of flexibility when it comes to finding the one that works for you. Some of the most common materials used in garage doors include:

Steel

Steel is a very popular material for most garage doors. These are often affordable, they last a long time, they do not require a lot of maintenance to last, and they are available in many styles for the homeowner to choose from. Steel is also easy to paint so you can change the color anytime you want and some styles and textures can mimic wood to really make it stand out. If you do go with this option though, look to see if they have insulation provided. Steel doors on their own are not good insulators so if you want to keep the garage door, pick ones with insulation.

Aluminum

Aluminum doors are similar to what we see with steel, along with the optional faux wood texturing and finishes that will last a long time. Aluminum can be slightly less expensive compared to steel, but it is also more likely to dent.

Wood

The earliest garage doors were made out of wood and for those who want to use traditional materials and styles, these are still popular. These may include windows if that is the style you like. The lowest-cost option is painted wood that has flat hardboard panels. Stain-grade wood doors offer a natural wood that makes your home look nice, but it does cost a lot more.

Wood Composite

Another option is wood composite. These are doors made out of recycled wood fibers. They offer all of the strength of steel with the texture and look of wood. You can even stain and paint them. These are often better than wood because they can resist some common issues like splitting and rot.

Fiberglass

Fiberglass doors are not as popular as some of the other options, but can be a good option to use. The panels are often encased in aluminum. You can also paint these and they provide more resistance to dents compared to steel. They are light and not the best insulator. It works well for coastal locations because it is more resistant to corrosion from salt-water.

As you get ready for installing Harrisonburg garage doors, it is important to pick a material that will last a long time and looks nice with your home. Check out some of these options to help you get the right one for your needs.
