Medical Alert Systems have become a life-changing solution for elderly people as well as people with disabilities

Medical alert systems are electronic devices that provide easy access to telephone answering service (PAS) numbers for medical emergencies. Medical alert systems are also called medical response systems and are designed to alert family members immediately in the case of an emergency. Medical alert systems are similar to home telephone answering machines, except they are equipped with a medical transmitter that can be attached to the person's body. Medical alert systems can be accessed through a keypad or a wall-mounted control panel. Medical alert systems come in two basic types, depending on the model that is purchased. These models are:

One of the ways in which medical alert systems for seniors are changing the way in which seniors are able to stay in touch with their doctors and emergency personnel is by using smartphones. A smartphone app makes it possible for seniors to stay in touch with the doctor and emergency responders even when they cannot see them. Most importantly, smartphones allow them to do this anywhere there is a wireless signal, which is not always available. By having access to their smartphones through the smartphone app, seniors are able to stay in touch with their own medical team and are not tethered to a desk.

There are many types of medical alert systems and smartphone apps for seniors. Most of these have the same basic features, such as the ability to read emergency contacts and the ability to send voice messages. However, some newer programs can also provide access to real-time GPS location data and the ability to send and receive text messages. The types of apps vary by company and some will allow access to an emergency physician's office, which may be important if senior citizens cannot remember to call when they need help. Recently, in January 2020, LifeStation recently introduced the mobile medical alert system LifeStation Mobile LTE.
