How Managed Network Service Providers Adapted From a Global Shutdown

The year 2020 is not going to be an easy one to forget. Habits and hobbies alike will not leave as easily as they came. Much of the world became static when the lockdown occurred due to the pandemic. That was until platforms, such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams, gained traction and kept the world connected while safe in their respective homes. However, platform users were not the only ones who needed to adapt, managed network service providers had to evolve as well.

This new lifestyle brought on a new outlook on how daily tasks were to be done. Many people are used to physically coming into work and having others around to engage. Here are some examples of the adaptations that were made by people and services like ours.

Remote Work

One of the first and most noticeable changes is that offices became empty. No longer were cubicles and parking lots filled with people and sound. MSP services were tasked with making sure that all of their clients were able to continue maintaining a controlled service with the now work-from-home employees. Not only was provided service need but security and storage were big factors as well.

Remote working was a method implemented before the pandemic; however, it has now become something that will be part of everyday practices going forward. The shift that the pandemic gave has allowed managed network service providers to grow their industry in directions that no one could have foreseen.

Cyber-Attacks

Unfortunately, one thing that did not slow down due to the shutdown was cyber-attacks. If anything, this crisis gave leverage to the attackers and allowed a pathway to many people. Due to people working from home, malware targeted home networks that are not as protected as the ones in offices or businesses.

Many managed network service providers strived for recognition and regulations before the pandemic. As of 2020, both of those have been received. Louisiana passed a law that regulated MSP services by requiring the companies to register with the Secretary of State to provide service to state agencies. This is the first state to provide regulation to MSP services and has taken full effect as of February 2021.

Cloud Services

There is nothing like office computers and their endless amounts of storage. Sadly, not everyone can have a couple of terabytes on their hard drive at home, most of which is used for personal data. To keep up with storage needs, many companies turned to using the cloud.

Offices relied on companies, such asTXSG, to provide service on networks that had a shared cloud. The employers and employees alike needed a shared space that ran well and efficiently to maintain collaboration on projects and communications. This is how companies were able to function throughout the shutdown and continue to meet the company goals, as they did prior.

2020 sent many entities alike into a spiral of confusion. There was little to no warning before the change, but companies came back full force as soon as they possibly could. The changes that were talked about above are here to stay, and many organizations are now prepared should further contingencies come their way.
