What You Need to Know About Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is a scary part of our everyday reality that (in worst cases) can eventually morph into chronic Lyme disease. Chronic Lyme disease causes infection that produces a range of unfortunate symptoms.

Unfortunately, many people don’t know much about Lyme disease treatment options to help their recovery process. Read on to learn more about the cause of Lyme disease, the symptoms, and how to find the best Lyme disease treatment for you.

Causes of Lyme Disease

Just a mere bite from a tick that is infected with bacteria is enough to cause the Lyme disease. The name of the bacteria that is transmitted from ticks to humans is Borrelia Burgdorferi. Quite the mouthful, right?

Although you may think it’s easy to spot a bug or a bite from a bug that’s not true with ticks. Adult ticks are only around the size of a sesame seed, making them difficult to spot. In addition, a tick’s saliva contains a substance that essentially numbs the skin of the host so that you might not even feel the bite.

Chronic Lyme Disease Symptoms

Not all doctors will recognize Chronic Lyme disease as a legitimate disease, but that doesn’t make the symptoms that accompany the disease any less real. Some of these symptoms often are-

  • Fatigue
  • Lack of concentrate
  • Inability to fall asleep
  • short-term memory loss
  • An aching feeling throughout the body
  • dizziness
  • pain and swelled joints

Treatment

Chronic Lyme disease treatment options are growing each and every year, but here are some of the more common options.

  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy- Commonly referred to as hbot treatment, this process is all about raising oxygen levels. Oxygen is necessary for the bacteria-killing process and when oxygen levels are raised throughout the patient’s body, they have a better chance of staying healthy.
  • Specialized treatment centers- These centers specialize in treating Lyme patients when medicine alone didn't do the trick. These treatment centers create a personalized plan for each patient in hopes of maximizing pain reduction.
  • Exercise- Two important aspects of everyday life that most people with Chronic Lyme disease have a hard time with are sleep, and mood. Exercise can help improve both of these important parts of your life. Something simple such as walking, stretching, or yoga can do the trick. But something more complex like swimming, jogging, or biking will work too! Just remember to start slow and work your way up to a higher intensity level gradually.

Getting Support

There is one other important thing you should do to make sure you can be at ease with your Lyme disease. And that is getting support.

Living with Lyme disease is physically and mentally exhausting. It can damage your relationships, your emotional health, and your psychological health. So how can you get support? You should always ask for support from family and friends. But there are other steps you should take as well. Try to connect with other people who are also living with Lyme disease. In addition, connect with a counselor or therapist.
