A hybrid electric vehicle or HEV has both a small gasoline

Fuel and energy prices have been at record high levels. Consumers accustomed to cheap gas are looking for ways to save money. Many people with large gas-guzzling vehicles such as trucks and sport utility vehicles (SUV) are scrambling for more fuel efficient vehicles. Hybrid cars offer customers fuel efficient alternatives to their large vehicles. In particular, the Honda hybrid car called the Insight offers excellent value.

A hybrid electric vehicle or HEV has both a small gasoline engine and a compact electric Turbocharger Electronic Turbo Actuator motor. The electric motor operates when the gas engine is not efficient, such as during acceleration. The gas engine is used for cruising and long distance driving. The Honda hybrid car, and most hybrids, are built to operate in one of three modes. The modes that hybrids can operate in include series, parallel, and split.

Note that the Honda hybrid car and all hybrids are designed to operate in only one of the three modes. It is not possible to switch between the modes while driving.

When the engines of the Honda hybrid car (or any hybrid) are used in series, the gas engine does not power the car directly. Instead, the gas engine drives a generator, which either powers the electric motor or recharges the batteries.

The Honda hybrid car model called Insight operates in parallel mode. In this mode, the gas engine, electric motor, and battery system all connect to the driveshaft of the Honda hybrid car. Both the gas engine and the electric motor combo can power the wheels alternately or together, depending on road conditions.

The third HEV mode is called the split mode. Although not used in this particular Honda hybrid car, it is summarized here. The gas engine powers one axle and the electric motor powers the other axle. There is no direct connection between the gas and electric power plants.

The Insight Honda hybrid car is rated as high as 68 miles per gallon. A manual transmission or a continuously variable automatic transmission is available on this Honda hybrid car model. This Honda hybrid car saves gas by stopping the engine during idling, and with a strong yet lightweight aluminum body.

The operation of this particular Honda hybrid car is transparent. The owner simply adds unleaded gasoline. Onboard computers and sensors tell the Insight Honda hybrid car when to use the gas, electric, or gas power plants. The batteries of this Honda hybrid car are charged by the gas engine, or when the brakes are applied.

The Insight has some of the lowest pollution emissions of the Honda hybrid car line, or of any hybrid model. Considering the fuel efficiency, performance, and features, this Honda hybrid car should be at the top of your hybrid car buying list.
