Baula’s vegan handbags are what your luxury bag collection was missing

American fashion designer, Racheal Zoe, once said, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” The saying holds true for everyone, even for those who claim to put no effort into how they dress. While local styles speak multitudes about the culture, history, and the climate of a region, cosmopolitan fashion goes on to show how well-connected the world has become. Clothing (or lack of it) is a form of self-expression and can be symbolic of gender, religion, belief, dissent, or any other aspect of one's personality.

World over, fashion is an ever-changing industry. Most collections come and go out of vogue every season, and it is often difficult to keep up with the latest trends. While fast-fashion clothes go off the shelves every other week, seldom do some beautiful pieces remain truly timeless and evade the conventional ideas of trends. The same goes for accessories, which can also be seasonal and trendy, or sometimes classic and timeless. Rarely is an outfit complete without a handbag that brings the whole style together and can be used to complete and compliment an outfit.

Handbags are often said to make or break a look, and a luxury bag is a perfect way to freshen up your wardrobe. When splurging on a luxury bag, it is always best to invest in a make and design that will stand the test of time. Luxury and flamboyance no longer go together, and it is usually elegant and minimal designs in calm colour palettes that do not have an expiration date to their style quotient. Another aspect to consider is the material used, and we are seeing that the previously popular leather is gradually losing ground to vegan leather. In addition to being a brutal material, the processing of leather consumes disproportionate amounts of water. It also uses and produces toxic chemicals which eventually find their way into the environment. Vegan leather is an ethical alternative material with the exact look and feel of leather.

Although there are many definitions of vegan leather, which usually mean synthetic materials, upcoming ingenious brands are now using the refuse from farm and food industries to make alternative leather. Colombia-based Baula is one such brand that is making use of alternative materials for their vegan handbags. Baula is taking a holistic approach in the production of its featured vegan handbags and wallets. The brand uses Piñatex and Apple Skin for the outer material. Piñatex and Apple Skin are leather alternatives. Piñatex is made of pineapple leaves, a by-product of the large pineapple farming industry in the Philippines, and requires no additional resources to produce. It can be easily cut, stitched, and embossed for various designs. Apple Skin is another alternative from Italy. It is made from the crushed refuse of apple juice industries. While Piñatex and Apple Skin are used for the outer material, the linings and covers of the vegan handbags are made from polyester or a blend of polyester and cotton. The polyester itself is produced from recycled plastic bottles in Columbia, while the cotton fabric is upcycled material obtained from leftovers in the fashion industry. The labels of these vegan handbags are made of chemical-free and bleach-free paper produced from sugarcane waste.

Baula has introduced vegan handbags in its Africa collection. The collection features four designs, and each design pays tribute to one of four endangered animal species from the African continent. The designs are named Elephant, Cheetah, Rhino, and the Hawksbill Turtle. Baula’s luxury bags can be styled in many ways. They can be used to accessorize workwear, glamorize party ensembles, or even pair up with casual outfits. Baula’s stylish and utilitarian Essentials collection features zippered wallets with multiple pockets and cardholders. While the Apple Skin bags and wallets are available in muted colours of taupe, beige, and black, the Piñatex variants come in metallic tones of gold and silver. With chic and elegant designs that are timeless and guilt-free, Baula’s vegan handbags will make an excellent addition to your luxury bag collection.
