Tips to Installing A Swing Set

Swing Sets are favorite among kids when it comes to outdoor fun. It’s a great source of entertainment for them and channelizes their energy for good. Swing set Installation is not as difficult as it may seem the only thing is you need to have some patience. The installation may take some time but it’s worth it for a million dollar smile on your child’s face.

Now let’s create an outline of what it takes to install a swing set for your child.

Choose a Suitable Location

Kids would like to play around, jump on and off, climb and slide on the swing set. So it’s important to choose the location carefully where you need to install it. As a concerned parent, you may also want to keep an eye on your child while he enjoys his favorite moments. Choose a space where there are no overhead obstacles like power lines, trees branches hanging close to the ground. Also avoid a space where there are underground water supply lines, septic tanks, sprinklers, and other kinds of obstacles.  There should be enough space for your child to play around freely.

Consider Size & Design of Swing Set

Once you have finalized the location you also need to decide on the shape, size, and features of the swing set to be bought. Swing sets come with many features like climbing walls, firemen poles, and trapezes but you need to decide what activities your child enjoys the most.  As far as size is concerned it’s better to choose the one that has a deck height of at least 5-6 feet as this can be enjoyed by children up to 14 years of age. For children below 7 years of age, a swing set with a deck height of 4 feet height is enough.

Preparation of the play area

Clear up the area for any stones, debris, metal pieces that may harm or cause injuries to your child. Measure the space and mark up the area where the swing set is to be installed. Make sure your children have enough space to run around, jump, climb and slide.

Measurement

The first step in the preparation of the play area is to mark it with the help of twine and stakes. You keep in mind the depth of the area, depending upon the size of the swing set you need to dig out anywhere between 8 to 12 inches in below the surface.

Leveling

Stretch the twine or the strings between the stakes and level it using the carpenter’s level instrument. The instrument has a green color liquid with a bubble. If the surface is not leveled the bubble tends to drift from the center, you need to do the necessary corrections to level the surface accurately. Adjust the stakes using the twine attached to it and level the same. Now start digging the area carefully that has been marked using a shovel and remove any grass stones or other unwanted material from the earth

Installation

Since each swing set has its own unique design the installation procedure may vary a bit for each of them although one of the important things all of them need is to anchor them to the ground. For small swing sets, you may anchor the swing set directly into the earth by drilling, screwing, and bolting directly to the swing set frame. You may also use concrete to anchor bigger swing sets that can withstand more weight.

Ensure the Safety of Your Child

One of the important aspects that should not be overlooked is the safety of your child. Once you have installed the swing set you need to decide about which material you can use to lay down in the play area. This is to protect your child from any kind of injury in case they fall off the swing accidentally. You can use sand, wood products, shredded rubber, or rubber mats for a soft landing.

Conclusion

Preparing the swing set for your child may involve a bit of hard work. As it involves preparing and leveling the ground, assembling the swing set and anchoring it, placing safety materials for a soft landing. But no doubt the process is rewarding in the end considering the joy and happiness your child will experience.
