How to Support Students Through Online Tutoring

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we live, work and study all across Australia and the rest of the world. With this ‘new norm’ emerging and taking a hold on our lives, many of us are adjusting to working and studying at home.

That’s why Contemporary Coaching College has launched online tutoring services throughout Sydney! We want to make sure that students receive the best educational support they need as they adjust to this new lifestyle.

We encourage parents or guardians to support their children to make online tutoring more effective and fun. If you’d like to help your child, here are some tips to provide support.

  1. Collaborate With The Tutor

Parents are highly encouraged to be a constant support for their children, especially when they are learning. One way to show support is by working with the online tutor and find ways to encourage the student to attend tutorial sessions on time and give them space for critical thinking.

  1. Create a Conducive Environment for Learning

A quiet room with little to no distractions is a perfect setting for tutees - and you as a parent or guardian may need to create that space. Be sure that there is no television set present and there’s minimal outside noise that may disturb their online tutoring session.

  1. Track the Learner’s Progress

Because online tutoring for students is not done physically face-to-face, it might be hard for the tutor to keep track of their student’s progress. You can help both the tutor and the student by being an active participant in tracking assessments and storing assignments in a creative manner.

For example, an English tutor has tasked the student to create a short essay about their day. Once they’ve submitted the assignment and the online tutor has given their feedback, you and your child can review the assignment and keep it somewhere where they can retrieve it and relearn the concept they’ve discussed for future lessons.

  1. Apply Concepts in Everyday Life

Online tutoring services will be more effective if you help your child apply such concepts in real-life situations. For instance, when your child is studying financial literacy or creating a budget, you can give them the chance to create a grocery budget based on the amount of money available. This way, online tutorials will become fun and enjoyable for the student.

Students across Sydney will now have the chance to study from home without feeling anxious inside a classroom. Parental and guardian support is important when creating a progressive learning environment. Talk to us about our online tutoring services at Contemporary Coaching College and we’ll ensure a tailor-fit tutorial experience that will gear your child for success.
