Care Tips For Your Dog’s Paw Pads

You should regularly inspect your pup’s paw pads. Spread the toes and check in-between for foreign objects like pebbles, burrs, or foxtails, and possible injuries. Also, check for anything out of the ordinary like any discoloration or swelling. Monitor your dog if they will exhibit any symptoms that signify if they are hurt or if ever there is tenderness when checking their paws.

Don’t let your dog walk on hot surfaces.  These refer to any hot surfaces like asphalt on a sunny day, as these can cause burns on your canine’s paw pads. Check the surface by putting your hand on it for roughly 5-7 seconds.  If the sensation is too scorching or unbearable for your hand, then it's too hot for your pup to walk on also. During high-temperature days, keep your outdoor dog walks and exercises curt.  Look for some shade and grass for your dog to walk and play on, and don’t forget to bring lots of water for hydration.

Any problem affecting your pet’s paws should be brought to the attention of your veterinarian St. Augustine, FL.
