CM agrees to Navjot Sidhu’s demand

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday held a meeting to ensure better coordination between the ruling party and the state government and expedite the implementation of various government initiatives, programs and reforms. Agreed to set up a 10-member 'Strategic Policy Group'.

The group will be chaired by the Chief Minister and will be attended by Local Government Minister Brahm Mohindra, Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal and Social Security Minister Aruna Chaudhary, Navjot Singh Sidhu and four working party presidents Kuljit Singh Nagra, Sukhwinder Singh Danny, Sangat Singh Giljian and Pawan Goyal. Apart from Pargat Singh, there will be members of this group.

A decision to this effect was taken this morning when Navjot Singh Sidhu, Kuljit Singh Nagra and Pargat Singh along with the Chief Minister arrived here to discuss issues related to Punjab and steps to be taken for better coordination between the party and the government.

The group will hold weekly meetings in consultation with other ministers and experts as required. These meetings would discuss and review the various initiatives already being implemented by the state government and also give suggestions for speeding up the process.

In another decision Capt. Amarinder Singh asked his Cabinet colleagues to be present at the Punjab Congress Bhawan on a daily basis to discuss issues related to their constituencies with the MLAs and other party functionaries. Any grievances could be resolved.

A Minister will be present at the Congress Bhawan for three hours from Monday (11:00 am to 02:00 pm) and if a Minister posted for a particular day is unable to be present for any reason, he will consult another Minister. Will provide your alternative. The Chief Minister said that this arrangement would be implemented five days in a week from Monday to Friday. He further said that this would lead to better coordination between his government and party functionaries in view of the 2022 Assembly elections.
