For A Great Surfing Experience, These Terms Are A Must!

Different sports have different vocabulary and are used by players while they perform. But when it comes to surfing, then this sport has its own lingos and slangs. For someone who’s a newbie, surf lingo can seem to be completely a different language. Surfing is known as a rich sport when it’s about different terms, styles, expressions, and technicality. The glossary of surfing comprises the whole list of definitions that are used by expert surfers while they stay in the waves or at Surf Camps USA or even outside in the real world.

Surf language is a lively reality and can turn out to be quite entertaining. There happen to be many times when surfer slang expresses the pros and cons of the surf culture in a wide view. Barely any other intense sport or action activity consists of such vast and well-known glossary as the surfing sport has. Eventually, the surfer begins observing a difference in the form they represent the environment of the beach or their surfing experience.

Mentioned below are some of the notable terminologies and slangs that are used by experts while they’re on board for surfing:

  1. Pocket: This term is used for the area of wave that’s nearest to the whitewash or curl. It is the most precipitous part of a wave and is also known as the energy zone. Surfers surf this area when they want thrill and speed while they surf.

  1. Duck dive: It’s a method in which the surfer immerses their board in the water to dive below a wave that’s approaching. The name originates from the method in which ducks dive below the water. It’s a key phrase when the surfer wants to speak like a proficient surfer.

  1. Pura vida: The name implies to the culture in Costa Rica that has turned out to be a way of life there. It has a complicated definition, but if the surfer really wants to know about it then they could join the Costa Rica Vacation Surf Camps and feel the experience.

  1. Right & left wave: Beginning from right wave, so from the perspective of a surfer who paddles and rides over the wave, it’s a wave that breaks towards the direction of right. However, from the perspective of beach that faces the ocean - the wave would mpve in towards the left. It happens vice versa.

  1. Swell: It is a sequence of waves that travel from their origin in a far-off storm further breaking in once they begin as they reach the shallow base of water.

  1. Over the fall: This term is used in a way as classic wipeout wherein the surfer falls going from the head of the wave to the base in a single stroke. It’s quite funnier when it’s observed rather than when it happens with the surfer themselves.

To sum up, as time passed by and with almost no planning or any specific reason, people staying near the ocean seemed to have contracted their own circle of Surfing terms of Surf Camps Central America. However, slang terms used between fishermen and surfers still persists to differ across the world.
