Epson Ink Cartridges: How To Replace Epson Ink Cartridges

Epson printer models differ from one another as with any other manufacturer. There is a slight difference in the installation procedure for each. With older Epson models, you need two cartridges, while with newer ones, you need four cartridges. The purpose of this article is to explain how to change Epson printer cartridges. The information in this guide will guide you on how to replace the ink in printers using four-cartridge technologies. To get started, let's check off some Epson installation fundamentals.

Organize your new cartridges

Take note of the model number and cartridge type of your Epson printer. When you have purchased a replacement cartridge and carefully removed it from its packaging, you will find four cartridges - three colored and one black.

You should arrange each cartridge on paper (to avoid leaks) and install them in the order you will be installing them in your Epson printer. The pieces should be facing up so that their labels can be seen, and they should be arranged in the following order:

  1. Cyan
  2. Magenta
  3. Yellow
  4. Black

Removing your old Epson printer cartridge

To access the cartridge carriage, make sure your printer is powered on, and then lift the printer lid. You are now able to see the cartridges after pulling back the cartridge cover on its hinges. Cartridge carriages are often hidden under a multi-color stripe.

By placing your index finger on each edge (one by one) and lifting them up until they release, remove each individual cartridge from left to right. Please make sure you dispose of cartridges safely and check if your local recycling center accepts them.

Replace your printer cartridge

You should always consult your printer's manual before attempting installation if you have any concerns or doubts. Incorrectly inserting a cartridge can be extremely expensive.

Make sure the ink nozzles are exposed by removing the yellow tape from each section of the cartridge before installing the new one. Afterward, place each section into the carriage according to step two (use the multicolored strip above the carriage as a guide if in doubt). Placing them face up into their slot and gently pressing down until they are secure should work. If you have inserted all the cartridges into the carriage, then close the cartridge cover and securely close the printer lid.

Check the Epson cartridge

You're almost done installing the ink cartridges, so you'd better perform a print test to ensure everything functions correctly. You will be able to determine whether the ink is printing correctly if you start your computer, open a document, press print, and check the results. Refer to your Epson printer manual if the ink is streaky or smudged. Align the printer heads if necessary.

Having reviewed the basics of changing an Epson printer cartridge, we will now focus on the installation instructions for two popular Epson printer models to show the differences between each of their cartridge replacement processes.
