Why General Motors and Ford have immediately Paused Production?

On Thursday, General Motors announced a temporary pause in production at 8 North American plants during the next 2-weeks. It also includes 2 plants that make the company’s top-selling Chevrolet Silverado pickup. The global shortage of computer chips is getting worse and forcing automakers to temporarily close factories including those that build popular pickup trucks. Ford will also stop making pickups at its Kansas City Assembly Plant for the next 2-weeks. Shifts will be cut at 2 more truck plants in Dearborn, Michigan, and Louisville, Kentucky. The cuts will compound an already short supply of cars, trucks, and SUVs on dealer lots nationwide that have pushed prices to record levels.
