Every superhero has a dark side and so does everyone. Each one of us values different things and has unique strengths in life but are you aware of your dark sides? When your strengths, your values become too dominant, you unconsciously cross the point.
Let me give you some examples
Let’s say you value “hard work” a lot for the success in your life but after a certain time, this hard work becomes a dark side as well, where you ended up being ignorant, confused between hard work v/s smart works, and expects same from everyone around you and set unrealistic expectations for your teams.
Your creativity solves problems but it becomes darker when you lose focus with several ideas in mind. This delays in decision-making where you are always looking for something different and unique. This can lead to missing something simple and obvious. Sometimes, following the process is much simpler
You might end up rejecting their ideas because they are not creative enough
Creativity requires time and space. In time-bound situations, you may get challenged and might struggle to make decisions.
This situation is also applicable at the organizational level where you might end up ignoring your employees and customer first, due to disengagement and dis-satisfaction amongst employees, leading to lower morale, lower productivity, and attrition. or you also can say that your organization has a “continuous learning” culture in your organization
This trait becomes your dark side when employees are constantly learning, but not able to apply and practice and its effectiveness lose its charm with time.
Thus, there is always a dark side. It is slightly possible you are not aware of your organization's darker side and there’s nothing much you can do about it
You need to reflect upon:
Do you know your dark side as a leader?
Do you know the dark side of your company’s culture?
