Whitening Traumatized Teeth

Teeth whitening is a widespread cosmetic treatment that offers a simple, safe, and effective way to give you a healthier smile. teeth whitening can be a challenging procedure when your teeth are affected by injury or trauma. In cases of traumatized teeth, the discolouration initiates from inside of the tooth and spreads outwards. Moreover, a combination of internal bleaching and restorative therapy is recommended.

Causes of tooth discolouration:

  1. Tobacco use: tobacco can cause your teeth to turn brown and yellow
  2. Age: Our tooth enamel wears down due to many reasons such as teeth grinding and trauma. Below tooth enamel is dentin. Dentin is yellow. When enamel wears down, the dentin displays through our teeth. As a result, they appear yellow.
  3. drinks and foods: Foods and beverages (i.e., tea, soda, coffee, and red wine) make our teeth pale in colour.
  4. Trauma: traumatized teeth can turn black. When a tooth damages, it loses its blood vessels and nerves. Due to this, the tooth becomes dark.
  5. Drugs: Certain pills like antibiotics can cause intrinsic staining.

At Hanover dental, we provide specialized whitening treatment for traumatized teeth. The first step is an examination of the traumatized tooth/teeth to ensure that the pulp is alive. Experts at Hanover dental examine your tooth with radiographs or other tests. At Hanover Dental, we try to know the actual cause of discolouration whether the stains are intrinsic or extrinsic, and the cost of teeth whitening. If the pulp is alive, external bleaching can be done to whiten the tooth.

In many cases, tooth discolouration can damage the pulp. In such cases, a root canal treatment is given to eradicate the infected pulp. Internal bleaching is performed to whiten the tooth after some months when there is discolouring of the tooth takes place that has undergone a root canal.

With internal bleaching, or “inside-out tooth whitening,” the bleaching agent is put inside the small cavity of the traumatized tooth. To perform this procedure, Hanover Park Dentista at Primary Dental makes a small hole in the back of the tooth where the root canal enters the pulp. Any debris will be removed and rinsed to clean the pulp space before adding a special cement that will prevent the whitening agent from leaking into the roots. After this, the whitening agent is put in and the pulp chamber is sealed with a cervical seal.

This process can be repeated after a few days until the desired shade has been attained. This normally happens after one to four appointments. Once the tooth has been whitened, a tooth-coloured filling or another permanent restoration that can seal the dentin is placed over the hole created in the tooth.
