How to Practice Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga: A Comprehensive Guide - Sakthi School Of Yoga
    1. Pattabhi Jois popularised Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga as a type of fitness in the twentieth century, and it is often presented as a modern-day version of classical Indian yoga. He claimed to have learned the method from Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, his guru. The style is dynamic, with breath and movement synchronized. Flowing motions connect the individual poses (asanas) (vinyasas).

    Series and sequences

    A Series (Advanced)

An Ashtanga Vinyasa asana method normally begins with five replications of Surya Namaskara A and five replications of Surya Namaskara B, followed by a standing sequence. Following this, the practitioner moves through one of six series before concluding with a typical closing sequence.

The six series are as follows:

Yoga Chikitsa, Yoga for Health, or Yoga Therapy is the primary series.

The Nerve Purifier, Nadi Shodhana, from the Intermediate series (also called the Second series)

The Advanced category: Sthira Bhaga, Clustering of Energy

    Advanced A, or 3rd series

    Advanced B, or 4th series

    Advanced C, or 5th series

    Advanced D, or 6th series

10 Useful Tips to Do Ashtanga Yoga!

    1. Anticipate Failure— Nothing in the Ashtanga Yoga technique is supposed to be simple on the first try. This is part of the practice lesson. Instead of making the activity simple, the approach requires you to strengthen your thinking. Accepting your failure and learning to love yourself nonetheless is a crucial life skill. Amid your first Ashtanga Yoga practice at Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Shala, you should feel slightly overwhelmed. It gets better after a while!

    1. Begin little and gradually—Don't bite off more than you can chew. While it may be tempting, to begin with, the Full Primary Series, as a beginner in Ashtanga Yoga, it is recommended that you begin with simply the Sun Salutations. If you're viewing a video of the Full Primary Series to get motivated to practice, just follow along for the first few minutes and then watch as much as you like. Then, when you're ready, move on to the last closing positions to finish your practice. Once you've mastered the fundamentals of the Sun Salutations, you may go to the Standing Poses and then the Seated Poses, until you've completed the Primary Series.

    1. Concentrate on the Breath, Not the Pose—The actual power of the practice comes through the breath channel. The link that connects the conscious and subconscious minds is deep breathing with music. When you learn the Ashtanga Yoga technique, the postures are just a way for you to breathe. It doesn't matter what poses you do or don't perform after you recalibrate your focus to the breath.

    1. Study the Tutorials—You're not alone if you've ever been overwhelmed by a posture. View tutorials from a certified instructor at Yoga School Malaysia to learn about healthy anatomical and alignment concepts. Learning how to think via the asana method can help you comprehend how to work. It may transform a sense of powerlessness into one of hope.

    1. Feel Your Body—The true goal of yoga is to become in touch with your body. Poses are never intended to be objectives in and of themselves. In reality, you never truly perfect a posture. Instead, your true aim when practicing is to bring awareness into every cell of your entire body. You will awaken to the truth of who you are once your body is physically filled with the boundless light of your awareness. This transcendental bodily awareness may occur in any posture, therefore there is no need to attempt all of the advanced poses.

    1. Avoid the Comparison Game—More postures will not make you a better practitioner. Posing more isn't the same as gathering chips on your shoulder. Everything boils down to inner work. While virtually all yogis struggle with the postures, the struggle is intended to be a teaching tool. Wherever you face a problem, that is where your yoga journey begins. If someone needs a more "difficult" position to reach their edge, that is their edge. Consider yourself fortunate if you find your edge in the first breath of the practice.

    1. Study—Add some reading to your regular asana practice. Pick up the Ashtanga Yoga method's essential books to discover more about how the practice works. It will be simpler to comprehend how the practice works if you understand its underlying aspects and goals.

    1. Submit to the Process—While you may want to try more postures than just the Sun Salutations and do something more fascinating and enjoyable, fully accepting where you are and submitting to the voyage will provide you with a gift greater than any postures--Peace!

    1. Don't Push or Push, Just Be—While it may be tempting to seize your limbs and force them into asana shapes, your body will suffer as a result.

    1. Never Give Up—Watch an inspirational video to inspire yourself if you are feeling overwhelmed by uncertainty. Get on your mat for at least five minutes six days a week.
