Rex Hong Kong - An Original Film About Martial Arts

Rex Hong Kong has been making hits ever since it released in 1980. This action-packed, romance-adventure starring Chow Tin Manh, cially big name actress Angelina Jolie as well as Hong Kong's most eligible and talented young stars, Roger Yeung and Mighty Joseph is a box office hit from the day it was released. The movie's success is owed in large part to its headline talent. Among this bunch, Angelina Jolie shines, as do Chow and Hong Kong's finest actors, notably Kwan Takata. Boasting an ensemble cast that includes several of today's best stars, Rex Huxley's " Rex" is a modern-day epic that puts China in a contemporary context.

Kung fu has always been a major component in Chinese cinema. In addition to such superstars as Jet Li and Bruce Lee, there have always been a number of lesser known, but no less impressive martial arts masters, who have come to make a name for themselves over the years. 悅刻香港 is not one of these names. However, director Mike de Leon does make an attempt to weave martial arts into the plot, and this results in a movie that is more action than romance. However, when the fighting sequences are combined with witty dialogues, the whole movie comes together into something truly memorable.

The story begins in modern day China, where a young woman, Wing-kee (angelina Jolie) travels back to her native Hong Kong from the USA to live with her aunt and uncle (Chow and Tie-hsin Hong), who seem to be preoccupied most of the time. When told by her aunt that she is to marry a wealthy Cantonese businessman (Hung Chau), she is shocked. However, Hung manages to impress her... Even more impressively, he manages to get her out of the house on the day of the wedding (while she's still in the gown).

There, however, things go wrong and Rex gets kidnapped by the Mandarin terrorists. On the wedding day, while she is inside the hotel with her maids, a van filled with Chinese terrorists crashes through the front door and kidnaps the entire wedding party. The Chinese terrorists have just gained access to the massive fortune that the couple has, and they use their newly-acquired wealth to buy all the goods and services available in the city, including the wedding venue. Now, as the couple tries to leave the country, they are confronted by a pack of vicious Chinese terrorists, led by their leader ( Yuan Yin), who wants the wedding to go ahead.

In the ensuing battle, Rex and Fatima flee towards Hong Kong in a helicopter. But the terrorists have also crashed the helicopter, killing most of the passengers. A Hong Kong cop named Cheung Soon (Mandarin), arrives to help the astonished foreign nationals, while the martial arts expert fights the terrorists. This action-packed film is full of gunfights, explosions, car chases and street battles, which are expertly choreographed. As a result, it is one of the best action films you'll ever see.

Kung fu legend Bruce Lee plays the role of the great martial arts expert, whilst the late Jackie Chan plays the role of an agent who goes into Hong Kong to help the foreign couple. The two Hong Kong action stars shine in this movie, with the late Chow Tien playing the role of the headstrong police officer and Jackie Chan as the much-deserving martial arts expert. The late Michael J Fox also comes across as a genuine Hong Kong action star playing the role of a Chinese terrorist. All these actors combine to provide a picture that is truly Hong Kong in its own element.

While the late Chow Tien is best known for his action roles, he does have some very good martial arts training and was trained by the late Bruce Lee. The late Michael J Fox also has some good martial arts training, as did Chow Tien and many other Hong Kong celebrities. This makes the movie more authentic and more natural. It is one of the best films to come out of China in recent years, if not the best.

All in all, this movie is very entertaining and will make both the old and the young fans to remember this movie fondly for many years. Fans of martial arts and martial artists will especially like this movie. It is definitely worth a watch. I would recommend it to any martial arts fans and movie lovers.
