Metal Corner Brackets

Through building their Wood Whisperer Metal Corner Brackets guild gaming dining table my version is going to be a little bit different because I have a few different requirements for one I need to have removable legs to be able to get it upstairs where our dining area is so in this video I'm going to show you the process of making removable legs using kerf mounted table leg brackets and hanger bolts [Music] this is a mock-up of the leg I've got to mock-up rails but this is my actual table leg but I highly recommend having some excess mock-up stock for the purpose of getting these curves right because it can be a little bit tricky so what are we looking at here over to aprons these can be permanently attached or simply permanently attached to these brackets hang a bolt that goes into the leg and a nut that locks it all down it would also normally have some screws that go into the aprons but I'll cover that a little bit later but.

The aprons removed you can see that the bracket just slides onto the hanger bolt and you can also see that I'm using Domino's here and they aren't required that not really adding much in the way of strength but they are really good for a line before actually assembling the whole thing I don't have a dowel drilling jig so to drill the endgrain along I present more trouble than using Domino's for me so if you do want to pair some sort of alignment system dowels are just fine so the first step is just to make your leg the correct dimensions width and length then you need to make a flat area here so that we can drill the hole for the hanger bolt now I did this using the router table using a 45 degree chamfer bit because it's every bit that I've got is a quarter inch shank I did this in two passes if you got a half inch shank a cappella building one one thing to pay attention to is the width of the chamfer.

It doesn't have to be particularly large depending on Metal Corner Brackets the thickness of your leg thickness of your apron and your apron position if we plug in the apron like so you can see there's actually a fair bit of reveal here that's a design decision to add some decorative panels to my table you see there then the reveal is only a few millimeters which is the design we're after this is a decorative panel that hides away the accessory rail if you don't want to have such a large reveal but you're still peeping the same length thickness and apron thickness you will need to have a larger chamfer you can use a larger chance a bit or depending on the design of your leg you may be able to just rip the whole thing with your table saw and if you heard through that you may need to build some sort of jig sort of straddles the leg and user rather to just route away that flat section.
