Effective Tips On How To Buy And Store Feta Cheese

Buying wholesale feta cheese and storing it correctly can be daunting for some people. Feta cheese has a crumbly texture and this means it can dry quickly even when stored in a fridge. For longer storage, it is best to keep feta cheese in the brine or salted milk to prevent it from drying out.

If the brine isn’t available then you can save the feta cheese by making brine. Mix two teaspoons of kosher salt and two cups of water and stir until the salt dissolves.

Tips for buying feta cheese like a Greek

When buying feta cheese, you should ensure that it contains salt, rennet and sheep’s milk. It shouldn’t contain anything else. Feta cheese that is made of cow’s milk will easily crumble and develop a sour taste. It also doesn’t leave a pleasant aftertaste. Make sure your wholesale food suppliers understand that you strictly want feta cheese made of sheep’s milk.

If possible, you should look for feta cheese made in Greece. This doesn’t mean that only feta made in Greece is good feta. You can still find feta from other places that sounds yummy.

Taste it

If you get the chance to taste the feta cheese before buying then you should do so. There are different kinds of textures: soft, medium and hard. There are also different aromas: spicy, saltier, and mild. This depends on the area and the container the cheese is manufactured in. A lot of people have favourite feta cheese that they always buy.

Feta should be white

When buying wholesale feta cheese, you should look at the colour and ensure it is white. If it is yellow, it means that the cheese was exposed to air. The taste of the cheese should have a rich aroma and tangy flavour. It shouldn’t taste sour, bitter, rancid, chalky or tasteless. Good feta should also have tiny holes on the surface.
