Polybutadiene is used particularly in the production of tires and other industrial products

Polybutadiene is a polymeric polymer. It is a broad polymer formed by the process of polymerization from the monomer I, 3-butadiene. Polybutadiene possesses several optical, mechanical, and chemical properties which make it useful in a variety of industries. Polybutadiene is derived from several organic chemicals such as cellulose, starch, glycerol, cholesterol, nacre, uric acid, and phenol.

The process of polymerization involves the conversion of I, 3-butadiene to butadiene and vice versa. There are two types of polymerization; direct polymerization and non-direct polymerization. In direct polymerization, the carbon atoms of polymerizing compounds are replaced by hydrogen atoms. This leads to the formation of long chains of carbon atoms which in turn produce long strings of polybutadiene.
