Interesting bazaars and shops, nothing like other regions of India, are spread across the Jammu Kashmir valley. So, if you are planning a trip to Kashmir, and it is probably your only trip to the state, shop to your heart’s content. That’s one of our advice. Due to several decade-long political reasons, Kashmir tourism had slipped off the travels and tourism radar. But thanks to CAA and COVID-19 lockdown, Jammu and Kashmir tourism is slowly fluttering to the top, opening up new destinations and shopping avenues for travellers to explore.

What Can You Shop in Kashmir?

Just like food, consider shopping a major factor when visiting Kashmir. We have curated a list of things you must buy and bring home when you are in the state. Trust us, there is more to Kashmir than just Kawah, Treks, Snow, and Pashmina.

Pashmina, of course, is a must buy. You cannot come back to your state without a pashmina shawl or blanket. Read on to find what else you can shop.

-       Kashmiris are chai addicts. They love tea, and you will find plenty of kinds in local shops. So, you can buy Noon Chai, Kawah Mix, and green tea leaves from the state.

-       Namda, the woven carpet is exquisite, and so is their woven rugs and wall hangings. They are one of a kind, expensive, and as gorgeous as the state itself. If you can spend enough, do buy one.

-       If you are in the mood to spend a lot on valuables, look for jewellery with Doda Sapphire, a stone only available in Kashmir.

-       Visit the handicraft expo for Kashmir Lac ornaments like bracelets, necklaces, and hairpins.

-       Explore the old city to shop for antiques, like Samovar and trays.

-       We all know about the state being the largest producer of Saffron – the most expensive spice in the world. But, you can buy fresh Saffron at a reasonable rate from Srinagar’s Saffron Farm, near Pampore Fields. You can also buy Kashmiri red chillies.

Jammu and Kashmir have plenty to offer when it comes to clothes, including Kaftan and Ferin. Ferin is a long garment made out of the local tweed.

-       Shopping in Dal Lake’s floating market is a different kind of high. You will mostly get everyday stuff, but sure it is fun and a new experience.

-       The valley is also known for its Walnut Wood Carved artefacts. Lal Chowk and Badshah Chowk are popular places to procure Walnut Wood Articles.
