Santa Snacks Around the World

With millions of houses to get to, there is no denying Santa Claus is a very busy man on Christmas Eve. It also can't be denied how much Santa loves to snack while he's making his rounds.

While cookies and milk is the tradition in America, Santa travels across the globe to different countries where traditions, climates and snacks all differ.

Check out some of the unique and different snacks people leave for jolly old Saint Nick in different parts of the globe!

Porridge in Denmark

Children in Denmark aren't concerned with feeding Father Christmas, but rather his magical elves, Nisse.

Children believe these rather mischievous house-elves demand porridge to be left out. If these demands are not met then the Nisse will taunt the children during Christmas day.

Croissant in France

Oui Oui!

As a staple of French cuisine, there are plenty of croissants that get left out for Santa in France. While croissants can be served plain, a little beurre et confiture (butter and jam) will help keep everyone on the nice list.

Another French Christmas tradition is for children to leave biscuits in their shoes for Santa to enjoy during the night. When they wake in the morning, the biscuits are replaced with small gifts and treats.

Hot Dog in Germany

While Bratwurst, Currywurst, Weisswurst and all the other wurst might not be traditional, hot dogs are certainly popular in Germany and make for a great Santa snack.

As for any top-notch hotdog or burger, you need a good foundation and the foundation starts with the bread roll. If you aren't in Germany or don't have a German grocer nearby, you may wish to look for frozen dough or frozen hot dog buns

Children in Germany also tend to leave out letters for Santa, in the morning the letters are replaced with Christmas gifts.

KFC in Japan

Thanks to an advertising campaign that began in the 70s, each year millions of Japanese people tuck into a KFC feast for Christmas.

While celebrating Christmas and gift-giving is not overly common in Japan, eating crispy fried chicken has become a widely practised custom and Santa is sure to get a wing or two.

Fruit Mince Pie in Ireland and The UK

Dating back to as early as the 16th Century, much of the English-speaking world are familiar with fruit mince pies. The sweet pie, which is filled with a mixture of dried fruits and spices, is traditionally left out for Santa in Ireland and in the UK. Typically, the Brits also leave out a little sherry, while in Ireland, kids leave St. Nick a pint of Guinness.

Fruitcake in Chile

Loved by some and hated by others, fruitcake is a staple around the world and the signature snack left out for Santa in Chile.

Beer in Australia

It's hot, Santa and his reindeers have worked non-stop for who knows how many hours so Aussie kids welcome St. Nick with an ice-cold beer.

Christmas is a time of year that’s filled with traditions passed down from generation to generation. Some are common throughout the world, but some vary depending on where you live. These were the different snacks left out by children for Santa throughout the globe.

What will you be leaving out for Santa?
