Disadvantages of Investing In GM Aftermarket Parts

Aftermarket parts are generic auto parts that are made by a company other than the vehicle’s original manufacturer. They are manufactured as brand new replacement parts and not as used parts.

Compared to the OEM parts, GM aftermarket parts are relatively cheaper. And this is one of the things that entice many vehicle owners.

We understand that you must have buy GM aftermarket parts to save a few dollars, but the little saving you did here can result in huge disappointments down the line.

Here are some disadvantages of investing in aftermarket parts:

1- Quality issues

With aftermarket parts, quality is the biggest issue. Not many people consider the standard of quality and durability when buying generic parts. And since spare parts of vehicles cost 50 to 60% cheaper, people don’t quite understand if they have aftermarket or OEM parts in hand.

Also, the aftermarket manufacturers are more concerned about quantity than quality. This means there is no guarantee of quality or safety with aftermarket parts.

2- Not approved

Another big disadvantage of aftermarket parts is that they aren’t certified as OEM parts. They don’t undergo testing for performance, quality, and safety like OEM parts.

Plus, installing generic parts means you can void your vehicle’s service warranty.

So, if you wish to replace a certain part of your vehicle that is under warranty, your car insurance company may pay to replace the same at no extra cost.

3- No warranty

When you buy an OEM part, you are directly provided with the manufacturer’s warranty and are also billed properly. This means, if something happens to a particular part, you can request a replacement without paying anything extra.

But, that isn’t the case with aftermarket parts. They come with a limited warranty, if at all. Plus, if the part damages your vehicle, then the manufacturer won’t be accountable for the issues. You will require to pay extra for proper vehicle repair.

4- Can deteriorate vehicle’s performance

Not many people realize this, but aftermarket parts are made in quantity, meaning they aren’t necessarily created for your vehicle’s make and model. They may seem similar to the actual parts but may not offer sufficient functionality as the original parts.

The unoriginal features on aftermarket parts can deteriorate your vehicle’s body, electrical panel, battery performance, etc.

Just because the parts cost half of what the OEM may cost, it doesn’t mean you should buy it. Keep in mind; you get what you pay for.
