How to enjoy "me time" as a new mom

Any new mom is exhausted, tired, and sleep-deprived. The biggest challenge new mothers face after their baby arrives is to find time some ‘me-time’. This is when a mother does something that she enjoys without interruption. How a new mom would spend this time is subjective because every person has their way of spending their alone time. Some people like to spend it by themselves while some may want to enjoy with their friends.

  Therefore, here are some tips to find some ‘me-time’ to maintain your sanity.


Share responsibilities

Parenting is the shared responsibility of both the father and the mother. Try to do parenting chores in turns so that both of you do not get exhausted at the same time. Find some time when your partner can take charge while you kick back and relax. Similarly, you can take care of the baby and let your partner enjoy the things that he loves to do. This way both of you would get some relaxing ‘me-time’ moments between parenting chores.

 

Ask help from your parents 

Grandparents are more than happy to take care of their grandchildren. It is therefore a great idea to ask your or your partner’s parents to help out. Let them take care of the baby while you take a break. You can catch up with your friends, sip on coffee, go shopping, sleep, take a relaxing shower, visit a spa or even go on a date with your partner. 


Hire a babysitter

This is an expensive option but it is okay to hire a babysitter once in a while so you can take a breather and go out for a movie, concert, or dinner date. Always do due diligence before hiring a babysitter. Keep in touch with the babysitter through video calls to check if the baby is alright. If you decide to hire a babysitter frequently, then it is advisable that you install CCTV cameras connected to your Smartphone. You can keep track of your child better.


Seek a friend’s help

Every once in a while, call your best friend, sibling, cousin, or even a trusted neighbour to come and help you with the baby. Your friend can play with the baby while you take a bubble bath, or do some yoga, or maybe just sit comfortably on a sofa. There is no need to feel guilty about asking for help. Most people love to play with kids and they would do this happily. However, make sure it is a trusted friend as it even concerns the safety of your child.


Relax while the baby is sleeping

Ask any new mother and they would agree that the best moment is when the child sleeps. This is the time that should be treated like the ‘golden hour’. Drop all your work and watch your favorite series TV, drink a cup of coffee ‘peacefully’, read a book, call up a friend or perhaps just fall asleep. This is your moment, do whatever makes you feel happy. 

 

If you are a new mother who is struggling throughout the day to get some moment of peace then you are not alone. All mothers go through this phase. However, remember that self-care is important and you should do something to find some time for yourself to relax.
